The 2010 Brewers look like they are pretty close to set with Melvin's pickup of Inglett yesterday. What I read about his numbers sound decent, a career .297 hitter, with a bit of speed and not a ton of power who can play the infield and some corner outfield. At least from what I've heard we're looking at a lineup of
1B Fielder 2B Weeks SS Escobar 3B McGehee C Zaun LF Braun CF Gomez RF Hart
Bench- Counsell, Gerut, Inglett, Kotaras/LuCroy
Rotation- Gallardo, Wolf, Davis, Parra, Bush/Suppan/Narveson
Pen- Hoffman, Hawkins, Coffey, Villanueva, Stetter, Vargas, and probably Bush if he doesn't make the rotation.
We would be one position backup or another reliever away from 25, Melvin says he's working on one more pickup, according to jsonline it will be another backup outfielder. I also haven't heard much about Riske's recovery, but if he's at spring training I'd imagine he'd be on the roster.
What do people think of this roster's chances? I'm always an optimist, so of course I think it will be an improvement over last year, and enough to seriously contend for the division/wild card. Am I crazy? Baseball season is getting closer and I'm starting to get the fever again.

Did we cut or trade Lopez? If not, I'd move him to CF and have Gomez pinch-hit in most situations.

Neither, Lopez is a free agent.

He made his fair share of errors, but my goodness, he's fluid with the bat. We should definitely re-acquire his services.

I liked Lopez...why not keep him?

No place for him I guess. They are committed to Weeks, at least for right now, and I don't think he wants to switch positions. As a backup I think he'd be too expensive, and I also think he wants to play everyday. I do like Lopez, but Weeks when he's healthy and playing well has more upside, but unfortunately that hasn't happened much so far.

I guess... its unreal how unflexible major league ball players are. Lopez to me is the prototypically centerfielder but because he won't switch, he just never ends up producing consistantly on a team like he could.

I'd guess they're worried about declining performance and losing value because of it. I'm sure for the right contract he'd move anywhere.

KK, high school girls even put up fusses about going to the outfield (I won't name names, LWL folks).
It's funny that the title of this thread is "Brewer's roster almost set". Apparently, it is now set with the addition of... Jim Edmonds? Does this guy really have anything left in the tank?

Add Jim Edmonds to the list of possible bench players.

I heard Lopez was a prick who had his "posse' with him all the time. The guy has been on a lot of teams, there has to be a reason why.

Jim Edmonds is a good call. I wanted the Crew to pick him up last year instead of nelson/duffy/catalanotto/gerut. Glad they finally decided to try it. It's not going to hurt gomez to have a veteran center fielder to rub off on him a bit. Good move by Melvin.

One thing I will miss most about Frank Catalonotto:
Your Love by The Outfield
